Response to the Sun’s Article on Liberland
Georgie English recently wrote an article about Liberland titled “ENTER THE MATRIX: How a Virtual Island in the Metaverse Became a REAL Country with Bitcoin Currency and No Rules or Taxes”. This article, published in the Sun magazine, shines a light on our growing country. While it captures Liberland’s spirit of innovation, some parts need more explanation. This article is our explanation.
First, it’s great that English points out our digital roots and use of cryptocurrency. This is a key part of our vision. However, saying we have “no rules or taxes” is a bit too simple. Yes, Liberland values personal and economic freedom, but we also have a legal system to protect rights and responsibilities. We focus on smart governance, not having no governance at all.
On being “a REAL country”, Liberland’s situation is indeed special. We’re working on getting recognized internationally, and we’re committed to becoming a fully functioning nation, building schools, homes, and more.
The article mentions the early challenges Liberland faced, like issues with neighbouring countries. These are normal for any new nation and don’t mean our idea is flawed. We’re talking with our neighbours to build respect and understanding.
As described in the article, President Vít Jedlička’s vision is bold but realistic. Using Bitcoin as our currency shows our belief in decentralized economies. This might be new, but it makes sense in today’s digital world.
English also talks about the success of the Liberland Metaverse and our urban design, which was made with top architects and developers. It’s more than a digital vision; it’s the centre for the new web 3.0 industry in the making, proving our commitment to technological progress.
We’re proud of our growing population. Over 700,000 people (not 500,000 as printed) wanting a Liberland passport shows there’s a worldwide interest in a new kind of government and life. Each person interested in Liberland shares our values of freedom and innovation.
